Founders & Past Board Members

Ever wonder what is happening at the small Reform Jewish Day School that you were once a part of? Maybe you were one of the first Presidents or Treasurers or tirelessly sat on the Board for years and years.

We remember you and want to re-connect you with the school! As one of the early families who had the vision to start or support this school in the early days-we would like you to once again be part of our community. We are interested to hear your stories and understand the past. We want today's students to know what those early days were like. If you have not yet done so, please use this form to provide us with your contact information. Please direct others who were part of this special founding group to our website so we can reconnect with them as well.

On October 28, 2008, a reception was held for the Founders and Past Presidents of The Leo Baeck Day School. They were re-united to celebrate and honour their participation and involvement in our school. They shared stories and memories of the "early days". It was truly inspirational to hear about how Leo Baeck was started and recognize how successful we have become. Several of the Founders and Past Presidents are now proud Leo Baeck grandparents and members of the Nachas Club.

“The Leo Baeck Day School has played a centrally important role in the life of the Toronto Jewish community, and especially of its Reform community, for 36 years. As Senior Rabbi at Temple Emanu-El, where the school was founded, it has been a joy to watch so many young people gain such a wonderful Jewish education, and grow up with such a strong sense of Jewish faith, values, culture, language, history and identity.”

— Rabbi Arthur Bielfeld
Rabbi Emeritus, Temple Emanu-El

“I remember when Leo Baeck Day School was born!  A small group of idealistic parents, many of them friends of mine, had the courage to trust their children to this wild idea of a Reform Jewish Day School.  As a professional Jewish educator, I must admit that I was quite certain that supplementary school education would remain the programme of choice in our community; yet, I watched with amazement as Leo Baeck prospered and grew.   I am proud to have served on the Board of Leo Baeck and to have been part of its success story.  Of course, my greatest sources of pride are Harrison, Cooper and Quincy Gryfe, three of my grandchildren, who are thriving as students at  Leo Baeck.”
