Sport at Leo Baeck
Health and Fitness, achieved through both curricular and extra-curricular programs, are an essential part of the Leo Baeck experience. In our 5-year Strategic Plan, written in 2004, we committed ourselves to "Enhance the school’s provision of extra-curricular programs with the goal of excelling in at least 2 areas, one arts, one sports." Led by full-time professional Physical Education teachers, and supported by a large number of volunteer parents, teachers and alumni, Leo Baeck can now boast a truly remarkable range and quality of sports activities, at every level of our school.
Much of the success of this is due to the commitment of our parent body. Since 2005, the Leo Baeck Parents Association has committeed itself to raising significant funds each year to support our Athletics Fund. The cost of the SCOPE (South Campus Off-Site Physical Education) programme has been met through this fund, enabling our Middle School students at our campus-without-a-gym to train and compete in quality facilities and to be coached by professionals. Workshops and master-classes by sports professionals, and membership of the Small Schools Athletics Federation, have also received Athletics Fund support, and have enabled us to add Soccer, Golf, Swimming, Track & Field and Skiing to our traditional involvement in Basketball, Hockey and Volleyball.
