Curriculum
The links on this page are intended to help you to understand your child's learning outcomes and expectations at The Leo Baeck Day School. We blend the values and methodologies of the International Baccalaureate (IBO) with the Ontario Ministry of Education (OMOE) expectations, and augment these with our own Leo Baeck enhanced curriculum and current "Best Practices".
Leo Baeck is an International Baccalaureate Candidate School, the only Jewish school in Canada to have this distinction. Click here for the official website of the International Baccalaureate program. You can also have a look at the IB section on the Leo Baeck website.
Click on the LBDS window directly to the right of this to locate your child's grade and the specific subject about which you are interested in seeking information. Clicking on the subject will open a cover page of general information pertaining to that subject. This page will also allow you to link to the OMOE website where you can find the curricular expectations for that subject. There is also a link on this cover page to the IBO site relevant to each grade.
For those subjects unique to our school, and which do not appear in the Ontario Ministry of Education documents, please scroll to the end of the subject's curriculum document in order to read our homegrown curricula.
The cover page of each subject will also show the diverse teaching methodologies and assessment strategies that we practice at our school. Scrolling through a subject's curriculum documents will give you a sense of the resources that teacher teams use to augment the delivery of the curriculum. Further scrolling through the document will give you an overview of the units of inquiry and learning that your child will be engaged in over the year's course in that subject. These units have been collaboratively developed and comprehensively planned by subject and grade teams of teachers to ensure child-centred, holistic education, rigorous academics and international mindedness in all that we do.
I hope you find these documents useful. If you have further questions, speak to your child's teacher or to your Campus Principal, who will be happy to answer your questions, or contact me directly at 905 709 3636 ext 231.
