President's Message:

On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you to our website.  We began this school year with exciting physical changes to our campuses.  Our North families return to renovations that not only beautify and enhance our home, but also help us to achieve our mission and extend our partnership with Temple Kol Ami and the community.  With the purchase of the Arlington Middle School complete, over the coming year you will have the opportunity to see “ The New South Campus” develop and be part of this historic transition for The Leo Baeck Day School.  As many of my friends and colleagues have commented -- it’s a good year to be the President!

Our board is a hardworking group of volunteers who take on the commitment of board service with professionalism, dedication and diligence.  This year’s Board is an ideal mix of veterans and rookies, parents, past parents and community members.  Our Board members include lawyers, developers, entrepreneurs, managers, psychologists, CEOs, CFOs, accountants, marketers and educators. Our Board members are committed to ensuring that our mission as a school is met and that The Leo Baeck Day School is positioned to remain strong and vibrant for years to come.  Our Board is a strategic board, working in partnership with the Head of School, to set direction for our organization, provide oversight and evaluation and ensure the School has the necessary resources to achieve its mission.  I invite you to get to know the volunteers who serve on the Board of Directors.  http://www.leobaeck.ca/about-us/board-bios.html

The work for our Board this year is challenging and exciting.  We will continue to work on our strategic plan, digging deeper into the issues and opportunities that last year’s work uncovered with the goal of finalizing our strategic plan later in the year.  We will oversee the development of the New South Campus and ensure that both of our campuses have the facilities they need to deliver our program.  We will continue to support and build our development team to ensure that fundraising is a high strategic priority so we can broaden our resources and reduce our dependency on tuition revenue.  We will continue to monitor and improve our governance practices, ensuring that we have appropriate controls and processes in place.  We will look to enhance our outreach to and engagement of the community so that the Leo Baeck Day School is viewed as the valuable asset we know it is.  And we will continue to carefully oversee and manage the financial assets of our school.

On a personal note, I am exceptionally proud to be the President of the Leo Baeck Board of Directors.  It is a privilege and an honour to serve in this capacity.  I take on this role knowing that I work with a group of dedicated volunteers and an incredibly capable and passionate Head of School.  I volunteer as a board leader because I know that Jewish Education matters -- it matters to the students of today and tomorrow, for the community and for the future of the Jewish people.

In closing, as you move through the website, I know you will learn more about our school and the unique education that it offers to Jewish families.  If you have any questions or issues that you would like our Board of Directors to consider, please feel free to contact us at Board@leobaeck.ca or contact the school office directly.
